The Message given by the Director Patty Jenkins to audience using Barbara's story in Wonder woman 1984

Barbara aka Cheetah 

Wonder Woman 1984 is 2020 d.c superhero film starring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. With the massive hit of Wonder Woman (2017) this movie released with much expectations. Let's take a quick look into the story. The film is about a mystical artifact named as dream stone. This stone was able to grant you one wish and it will take something away from you in return . There's a reference about " Monkey's paw " in the movie implying the above statement. 

Barbara and Diana 

Some people said they didn't give a good story to Cheetah.  They said they didn't follow the comics. But actually Barbara's story in the movie is great. I don't know why many people failed to see this. They have shown a struggle of a common girl through Barbara's character in the movie. In our world most of the people admire women for their beauty & they fails to give proper respect to some woman with shy behaviour, some woman with knowledge & to some ordinary & common women. Barbara's story depicts this very perfectly. 

Barbara before the Wish

Barbara is an innocent & more like a nerd woman who has some skills in her field. But her co workers didn't give proper respect to her because she's not stylish like others. However Diana helped her & Barbara was impressed by the Charming personality of Diana. You can noticed how happy Barbara was because finally she got a friend to speak. The writer has shown the mentality of those women who didn't get proper attention through her story. Then she accidentally wished to be a charming personality like Diana. Next morning she suddenly got strengh , admiration & respect next morning. She didn't want to lose it.

Dream stone usually takes something in return when it grants wish to someone. For example it tooks certain percentage of Diana's power when it brought back Steve as Diana wished. Like that it took goodness & innocent qualities of Barbara when it granted her wish.

Diana vs Barbara 

Later Barbara , Diana & Steve found out that inorder to stop the chaos caused by dreamstone all the people who got wishes from  it had to renounce their wishes back. Barbara didn't want to lose her powers & reputation. So later she fought with Diana because Diana was trying to make all the wishes to go away. Her story arc is actually awesome & it's logical. Finally she realized her mistake & renounce her wish. I don't know why many people failed to understand that her story is good. I agree that this story is different from the comics. But it's also a good one.

Patty Jenkins 

Writer Patty Jenkins has given a strong message to audience via the story of Barbara. Don't treat the woman just with their beauty. Some may be not that beautiful in their external appearance but they may have beautiful heart,good talents inside of them. Fat or thin, Beautiful or Not , Clever or not just show respect to them .So please try to give proper respect to all the people around you including women.

Moreover she also said to women that don't get depressed when the society doesn't give you proper respect & recognition and try to live like others. This point is implied in the scene where Lord Maxwell asked Barbara to wish again. Now Barbara realized she doesn't have to live like others & she wanted to be unique . So she said to Lord Maxwell that " I don't want to be like others anymore. I want to be number one. An apex predator, like nothing there's ever been before. " From this we can understand that if you want to be number one or if you want to lead a happy life, then you have to live on your own not for the society. Never forget that your life your rules. If you follow this one day your life will turn into a beautiful one.
